Fraud Management - Call Sell Fraud

Call selling is a fraud that involves acquiring access to a telecommunications network and using the lines to sell calls at below the normal rate.  The operator loses revenue from several sources:

• Non-payment from the initiating accounts
   
• Cost of network sources and provision of service
   
• Lost revenue from the standard service that should have been utilised
   
• Loss of real cash to pay other operators for delivery of the calls to their destination

The most effective way to manage call sell fraud is to prevent access to the service at application stage.  The next step is to monitor subscriber behaviour on an individual level, as well as draw relationships across the customer and services base in terms of call activity.  Using these methods of detection, together with traditional usage monitoring, allows detection at an early stage and can prevent repeat abuse.
