Fraud Management - Subscription Fraud

Subscription fraud is defined as gaining access to products or services without ever having the intention of paying for them.  It is often carried out using false details or another individual’s particulars (identity theft) and is recognised as the most damaging amongst non-technical fraud types.

Subscription fraud is difficult to tackle via analysis of call detail records (CDRs) because identification is only possible once the fraudster is already on the network and causing damage.  Also signs of fraud, such as high traffic volumes or regular dialling to suspect destinations, must be obvious in order to trigger an alert.  If the fraudster can be denied access to the network, subscription fraud can be reduced and a high percentage of other fraud types will be prevented.
