Managing Bill Shock

It is not unusual for subscribers who use data service (e.g. GPRS) when roaming to be taken by surprise at the magnitude of their bill - commonly known as 'Bill Shock'.

This occurs when the subscriber does not appreciate the amount of data transferred during common tasks such as web browsing and downloading email, or simply because they are unfamiliar with the cost of using data services when roaming.

In some cases, the magnitude of the bill is so large that the customer is unwilling or unable to pay. At best this will result in an unhappy customer. At worse, the customer can be lost or pushed into bad debt.

Neural Technologies' Minotaur Solution monitors roaming data usage, enabling operators to warn subscribers who may be at risk of accumulating unmanageable bills.

At the highest level, the solution monitors subscribers' roaming mobile data usage and raises an alert if their usage appears excessive. The alert triggers a warning message by SMS to the roaming user. Successive warning messages are sent if the subscribers' usage continues at a high rate.
